报告人简介:

Prof. Birger Rasmussenis a geoscientist with broad research interest. He holds a PhD in sedimentary petrology and petroleum geology. His research involves innovative application of cutting-edge microanalysis techniques integrated with conventional petrography and field studies, to investigate earth science problems such as the impact of diagenetic phosphates on marine phosphorus and rare-earth element cycles, and their potential for dating ancient biological and environmental events; the use of radioactive bitumen nodules and oil-bearing fluid inclusions to trace oil migration in ancient sedimentary basins. He currently explores the early history of atmospheric oxygen, and the genesis of banded iron formations, funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) through an ARC Australian Professorial Fellowship. Most of his high-impact research has been published in Nature, Science, EPSL and Geology.

Dr Steve Sheppardis a Senior Research Fellow at CurtinUniversity. His research interest is in the origin of banded iron formation and iron ore deposits, in particular the timing and tectonic setting of mineralization. He is also researching various aspects of the tectonic evolution of the Proterozoic inWestern AustraliaandNorth America. Steve completed a BSc (Hons) at theAustralianNationalUniversity, and received a PhD from theUniversityofWestern Australia. He has more than 20 years’ experience of field-based studies involving geological mapping and management, previously working for the Geological Survey of Western Australia, the Mineral Resources Authority inPapua New Guinea, and exploration companies.

Dr Jianwei Zi has a PhD in geology from theUniversityofWestern Australiafor study on the Late Paleozoic-Triassic tectono-magmatic history of the Jinshajiang Paleo-Tethyan orogenic belt. Prior to that, he studied atChineseAcademyof Sciences Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, and worked on geochemistry and petrogenesis of the Permian mafic dykes and flood basalts within the Emeishan large igneous province. His current research is focused on in situ ion microprobe U-Th-Pb dating of accessory minerals, particularly monazite and xenotime, and its application in determining age and identity of hydrothermal, metamorphic and igneous activities and related mineralization.
